In this process, it is important to promote the results obtained in the previous stages and to monitor and review the strategy according to the established plan. The next step in this long-term strategy is the implementation of the mitigation measures defined in the Roadmap, which should start in 2023 and lasts until 2050.
By doing this, the Roadmap is a participatory decision tool that also expresses the needs and the will of the population of the ARP.
It is also important to mention that, during this process, the region's main stakeholders, including the main community leaders, were able to share their experiences, evaluate and reinforce their vision regarding the proposed greenhouse gas mitigation measures. By outlining this last scenario the strategy of the Roadmap was defined. To do that, and due to the lack of information in this specific matter, an information-gathering process was conducted to fulfill this need, sampling all the economic sectors and island Afterward, using the information collected, the region’s GHG emissions were determined and projected into two possible evolution scenarios: one that considers the Business as Usual scenario and another that includes sectorial mitigation measures for greenhouse gas emissions, without compromising its economic development. To define the Roadmap for Carbon Sustainability on Principe Island, it was necessary to determine the baseline and the evolution of the GHG emissions from the ARP.
